Exhibition of art works by Dean O’Brien

An exhibition of painting, drawing and mixed media work by Dean O’Brien is currently on show in Cork College of FET’s Douglas Street Campus, Cork.

Dean’s works take their starting points from his travels in France and Spain. As well as interesting natural objects he has collected.

“I enjoy working with various mediums like charcoal, pen, paint, collage and ink. All of these can even feature in any one piece. I start by using observational techniques. I then abstract the work and choose what I think is important, sometimes it’s a line, or texture or colour.

Experimentation is key and I avoid having any preconceived ideas about how the finished work will look like.  I find that I let the work decide where it wants to go, and if I am surprised then I feel it’s working.”

 

The exhibition can be viewed from February 9^th to March 13^th 2023 in the College main building on Sawmill street in Cork city.
